Position Description

Position Summary

New River Electrical is looking for a qualified Safety Specialist with knowledge in the electrical utility construction industry. The Safety Specialist will focus on maintaining an injury free culture while performing observations, investigations and identifying improvement opportunities . In this role you will implement policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations. This position reports to the Safety Supervisor.

Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  2. Assist with the completion of all client required training/orientation.
  3. Identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  4. Conduct safety inspections, observations, and audits to assess employee adherence to safety regulations and identify opportunities for improvement.
  5. Complete accident and incident investigations to identify root cause(s) and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  6. Travel to job sites to observe, coach, and mentor employees.

Position Requirements

Qualifications

  1. 2-5 years of safety experience, including at least one year within the electrical utility industry.
  2. Intermediate knowledge of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  3. Knowledge in electrical transmission and distribution construction, preferred.
  4. Advanced safety designation (CHST, CUSP, CSP), preferred.
  5. Degree in occupational safety, preferred.
  6. Bilingual in both English and Spanish, preferred.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Ability to host meetings and conduct training.
  9. Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
  10. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  11. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple ongoing tasks while working independently.
  12. Ability to work with diverse skill levels and learning styles
  13. Professionalism and adaptability in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
  14. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Travel

Travel for this position is required mostly limited to the geographical area the role supports and overnight stays will be approximately 50% annually.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to adhere to extended periods of time standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting (up to 30 lbs).
