Reading Teacher

Anticipated Openings

Provides enrichment, developmental and remedial reading/mathematics that integrates skills across the curriculum using evidence-based reading instructional practices to improve reading achievement at the school

Representative Duties and Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Assist classroom teachers by providing them with additional materials and/or strategies for those students who have been identified as being in need of additional instruction
• Work with the classroom teachers and school personnel to coordinate reading instruction designed to meet the individual needs of students
• Work with the classroom teachers to monitor student progress
• Administer diagnostic individual informal inventories and individual tests to insure appropriate instructional and skills levels
• Develop strategies to prepare students for school-wide or state assessments
• Monitor, analyze and interpret reading/mathematics assessment data to make recommendations for instruction and reteaching
• Assist teachers in formulating flexible needs groups
• Teach remedial reading and target instruction to specific skill deficiencies for individuals, groups and whole classrooms

• Orient new teachers to school reading program
• Demonstrate and use appropriate software in the delivery of reading/mathematics instruction
• Keep up-to-date with current trends, developments, and issues in the teaching of reading
• Apply recent research and theory to practice in all programs for the refinement of reading

and language arts instruction

• Recommend appropriate reading materials and supplementary materials as needed

• Perform other duties as assigned

Education, Experience, and other Qualifications:

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Highly qualified according to NCLB guidelines

Credential: Reading - NYS Certificate in Reading\Literacy or related concentration or training in scientifically based reading research
