Job Title: Non-Destructive Testing Inspector

Job Description

The Level II NDT Inspector is responsible for performing, interpreting, and documenting nondestructive testing in accordance with approved data, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications. This position supports the establishment and ongoing operation of the NDT Laboratory, with a primary focus on Magnetic Particle Inspection (MT) and Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI/PT). Following the maturation of the NDT lab, the inspector will be cross-trained to perform duties as a Repair Station Inspector in support of overall airworthiness determinations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Magnetic Particle (MT) and Fluorescent Penetrant (PT) inspections in accordance with approved NDT Techniques and Procedures, FAA regulations (14 CFR Part 145), customer requirements, and OEM maintenance manuals.
  • Set up and calibrate NDT equipment and systems.
  • Interpret and evaluate indications using applicable acceptance criteria.
  • Document inspection results clearly and accurately.
  • Ensure full traceability of parts and inspection records.
  • Maintain compliance with NAS 410 / SNT TC 1A certification requirements.
  • Support the development of NDT procedures and work instructions.
  • Assist in NDT lab setup including equipment qualification, process validation, and environmental controls.
  • Monitor and manage consumables to ensure proper handling, storage, and shelf life control.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and FOD-free work environment.
  • Ensure all inspections meet the requirements of the Repair Station Manual (RSM) and Quality Control Manual (QCM).
  • Participate in internal audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections.
  • Identify nonconformances, document findings, and initiate corrective action processes when required.
  • Support root cause and corrective action investigations.
  • Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections.
  • Verify that work performed complies with approved data and regulatory requirements.
  • Review maintenance records for completeness, accuracy, and traceability.
  • Ensure airworthiness release documentation meets FAA requirements.
  • Support Return to Service determinations when authorized.
  • Provide On-the-Job Training (OJT) for trainees and other inspectors.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Essential Skills

  • 2–3 years of NDT experience in aerospace or a similar regulated industry.
  • Familiarity with FAA Part 145 Repair Station requirements.
  • Thorough proficiency using measuring instruments such as scales, calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, and various types of precision measuring equipment.
  • Understanding of all pertinent manufacturing, repair, and engineering test processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to interpret inspection criteria and make sound accept/reject decisions.
  • Working knowledge of NDT equipment, materials, and process controls.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Certified Level II in MT and PT per NAS 410 or SNT TC 1A. Required.
  • Ability to obtain Repairman Certificate. Required.
  • A & P License preferred.
  • Additional NDT certifications (ET) preferred.

Work Environment

Work is performed in both office and factory settings, with exposure to shop environments such as noise, dust, odors, and fumes. The hangar is not controlled by central AC; however, swamp coolers and fans are available. The role occasionally requires lifting up to 20 lbs and regularly involves sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and moving about the facilities.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $40.00/hr.
