Job Description and Duties

As the state's federally mandated Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU), the Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse (DMFEA) works aggressively to investigate and prosecute fraudulent activities and the illegal diversion of health care resources from California's most vulnerable citizens.The Crime Analyst Supervisor (CAS) directs and supervises the activities of technical and analytical staff for the Southern Region of the Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse (DMFEA). The CAS will oversee and supervise activities to include but not limited to: locating, compiling, analyzing, and disseminating Medi-Cal fraud and elder abuse information, data, documentary evidence, and property in support of the investigative and prosecute duties of the Special Agents, Deputy Attorneys Generals, and Special Investigators within the DMFEA. The CAS will also oversee and supervise various classifications in their performance of clerical and administrative duties as necessary. 
This position requires regular travel to all Southern California DMFEA offices to supervise staff in those locations.

Telework is  available but is contingent on DMFEA's operational needs. Office work in a smoke-free environment. Telework requires California residency.

Knowledge of how to:

  • Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the units; communicate and maintain effective working relationships with other sections/units to coordinate workflow and resolve problems; monitor and evaluate employee effectiveness, production, and activities.
  • Monitor performance of the unit’s staff and take action as appropriate; prepare reports and documentation; implement new office procedures and management policies and ensure that legal requirements and policies are adhered to.
  • Interview, hire, train, and evaluate the performance of immediate subordinates. 
  • Gather data and prepare reports with recommendations for management with regard to matters that impact the units; develop, write, and implement management policies and procedures as assigned. 
  • Skills: Excellent communication (written and oral); technical (e.g., Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and ProLaw); analytical; supervisorial; diplomacy.
